SWOC analysis of the department and Future plans:
-
A combination of experienced and fresh teachers is one of the strengths of the department.
-
The growing research culture is strength and all faculties of the department are involved in the research activities- pursuing M Phil or Ph D and publishing research papers.
-
Most of the faculty is involved in various curricular and extra curricular activities of the college and universities which enables us to know our students better and help them develop their personalities. Our direct connection with YCMOU and IGNOU helps us to develop and enlarge our own perspective regarding the curricula of our own university.
-
The students from rural area are inherently weak in English. This results in creating a phobia about the language in their mind.
-
As a global language and language of knowledge English has become the language of power. This is an opportunity for the department to run interdisciplinary courses in English. The department is running some such courses and planning to offer more.
-
Due to students’ growing preferences to competitive exams there is less number of students inclined to study English literature.
-
At the same time the growing number of students at compulsory level creates a challenge to manage the class physically and academically.
-
A special Whats App group of Functional English students for effective and continuous learning of English.
-
Along with crash course in written communication the department plans to conduct a crash course in Oral Communication at SYBA special level.
-
The department wants to prepare an audio text book for the visually challenged students.
-
The department wants to start short term courses in ESP.
-
In-house journal for the PG and Research Students to promote research culture amongst them.
-
Third issue of Poetry Carnival: An Anthology of Poetry, the home publication of the department published at the interval of five years.
